In addition, the state is prone to tornadoes and their devastating damage, with an average of 35 occurring per annum. Illinois is the home to the Windy City of Chicago, one of the most important cities in the United States. Now a business hub of the United States, Chicago has deep roots in industry as a major ocean port providing access to the Mississippi River and the Atlantic Ocean.
