Tennessee Public Records
The home of country music, Tennessee, lies in the southeastern United States characterized by the Appalachian Mountains in the east and the Mississippi River in the west. Tennessee is the 36th largest state in the country at 42,142 square miles in total area, or 440 miles in width by 120 miles in length; 2.2% of the state is comprised of water. Also the birthplace of a number of interesting people including Davy Crockett and Sam Houston, Tennessee was admitted to the Union on June 1, 1796. Tennessee was the last state to leave the Union and join the Confederacy during the Civil War, but it was also the first state to be readmitted to the Union at the conclusion of the war. In general, Tennessee offers hot summers and relatively mild winters with a significant amount of rainfall throughout the year. It can snow in moderation, generally ranging from 5 inches in the west to 16 inches in the eastern mountain. Thunderstorms are quite typical and tornadoes are a definite possibility. Ice storms and fog are weather events that can also hinder the state at times. Of course, the state of Tennessee is most recognized for its impact on the music industry. Memphis spawned the recording careers of many great musical artists such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Roy Orbison, while the Grand Ole Opry put Nashville on the charts for its down home country roots.
