Average annual temperature varies from 39 degrees Fahrenheit in the north to 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the south. Thunderstorms occur on average 30 times per year in the northern part of the state to 40 times per year in the southern part of the state, mostly in the summer. The state produces about one fourth of the country's total cheese production. It also ranks second in milk production after California. Butter is major product as well; one fourth of the nation's total butter supply comes from Wisconsin.
