Maine Public Records

Maine, the northeastern most state in the nation, is also the only state that shares its borders with just one other state, New Hampshire. It was inducted into the Union on March 15, 1820 as the 23rd state. Though relatively small in size compared to other states, Maine is the largest state in the New England region, measuring 35,385 square miles in total area. That is, the state is approximately 210 miles in width by 320 miles in length; 13.5% of the state is comprised of water. The weather within the state of Maine can vary significantly from season to season. Winters are cold, snowy and can be severe at times, while summers are warm and humid. However, thunderstorms are relatively infrequent and tornadoes are even more rare. Due to its northern, coastal location, the state of Maine is famous for its rugged coastline, sandy beaches and thousands of offshore islands. The landscape offers unprecedented forested beauty, complete with picture perfect lighthouse settings.
