Montana Public Records

Home of the famed Yellowstone National Park, Montana was the 41st stated admitted to the Union on November 8, 1889. By area, Montana is the 4th largest state in the U.S., measuring approximately 147,042 square miles or 630 miles in width by 255 miles in length; 1% of the state's total area is comprised of water. However, based on population, Montana ranks near the bottom, yielding one of the lowest population densities in the country. Montana experiences a range of weather due its size and varying elevations. The western half of the state is mountainous, where winters are mild and summers are cool. On the other hand, the eastern half of the state is comprised of plains and badlands, along with hills and various mountain ranges. Therefore, these regions experience high temperatures in the plains, and cooler temperatures at the higher elevations. In general, temperatures in the state have been on a warming trend, causing the glaciers in Glacier National Park to recede. Clearly, the state of Montana is most well known for its numerous mountain ranges, and beautiful open areas. Millions of tourists visit the popular destinations of Glacier National Park, the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument and Yellowstone National park each year.
